Thandi

Thandi is a story that moves between the world of traditional culture and a contemporary urban context. It captures the space of play between reality and imagination. It is about a little girl who finds that the wonderful creatures from her dreams can help her and that her culture is with her in the present.

Thandi is 4. She is looking after her mother who is very ill. Just before her mother dies, she gives Thandi a magic creature, a tiny antelope. When her mother dies, Thandi is adopted and the little antelope goes with her. Thandi won’t speak to anyone but at night, in her room, the other toys come to life and Thandi is carried away on a journey to find her heart.
